Parasite in My Uterus!

Today was such an incredibly long day. Which seems weird since I technically got to sleep in a little.

My first OB appointment was at 11:30. Unfortunately my doc had been called into emergency surgery and only about half of what needed to be done could be done without her. So after a quick checkup, and some answered questions, I headed down to the lab to do the routine blood work stuff. I managed not to scream too loudly when the phlebotomist suck me, she was surprisingly good, and didn’t even bruise me. The only time available for me to come back in when the doc would be around was 4pm, so I headed off to work for a couple of hours.

At work I did what little I could do, got some beds shipped out, and cleaned up the office a bit. I’m dreading the coming months when I am less and less able to do what I do at work, they are not prepared at all for me to not be there. If James too has to stay home with me, they are totally screwed. Literally nothing gets processed without me. Orders get taken, but not invoiced, or charged, or shipped. What are they planning on doing when I can’t be there? So far, nothing.

Anyway, we rushed out of work to head back to the doc’s office. My OB is such a wonderful professional, yet personable woman. There’s a reason why I’ve referred her to three of my friends. In fact, when I mentioned that I referred Lizzi she mentioned her having come in and smiled. She went over a bunch of things with me, made sure I got any questions I had answered – I even sprung a new one on her, I asked her if I could get a tattoo while pregnant. She told me sure, no problem; she even referred me to her husband’s best friend’s tattoo shop! Too cool.

So, the big reveal:

It is 8 weeks and 4 days. Or thereabouts.

When I told the doc and the head nurse that we and our friends had been referring to it as “the parasite”, they laughed. The doc said, “yep, it will just take whatever it wants from you…for the next eighteen years.” Then nurse and I simultaneously added, “nope, for the rest of your life.”So glad I have another seven months to get used to this idea of having a child. Oy.
