I guess I will start off this blog by jumping right in and posting a weekend update…
Friday
Work was the usual slugfest. Balancing our need to get product made and shipped out, with our desire to get the hell out of there. We walk a tightrope of necessary fundage and emotional dislike of our workplace. We really do.
Since being pregnant and not having a lunchbreak was about to make me feel like I was being hollowed out with a big spoon, we hit up Logan’s Roadhouse on the way home. I don’t know why, but I always assume their steaks will be better than they always turn out to be. They totally messed up my steak the first time, cooked it medium instead of medium rare. But they were quick and replaced my whole meal, sides and all. There was no way I was finishing two huge sweet potatoes, so stuff ended up coming home. As usual – restaurant portions are way, way too big, even for a parasite-carrying female like myself.
A bit later on David came by to pick me up and we headed off to play War of the Rings at Chad & Lizzi’s house. An hour of rules clarification and a bit of brain melting later, we got to playing. David and I got to kick puppies as Mordor and Saruman respectively; Chad was Gondor and Rohan, while Lizzi played the People of the North. Very complicated game, and I fear we molded it a bit to our liking by power sharing a bit more than the game intended, but I loved it. We all ended up being silly with the mind games, and planning half-pincer movements and the like. I can’t wait to play it again, even if it will take 12 hours to finish a game.
Saturday
Saturday was our slowish weekend day.
We woke up late, had Indian at KhaZhana for lunch and then did some of the grocery shopping for next weekend’s Geek Camping trip. There’s still a few more things for us to get this week, but we are mostly ready.
We just puttered around the house for the rest of the afternoon, ’til James had to go to work. I probably didn’t do anything at all of importance while he was at work…
Sunday
Sunday we got to catch up a bit more on our beauty sleep, but immediately got up and went to James’ sister’s place for lunch with the sistars and their dad (and JD). Kathy made wonderful pot roast and curry potatoes, and the lentil soup really hit some kind of spot for me. I guess I need to make me some lentil stew…I was hoping for a good game of Settler’s of Catan while visiting with them, but other plans were afoot, and so we headed home.
After a quick message to David, he came over to our place and helped me set up this wonderful blog! The whole process was both easier and more complicated than I was expecting. I know that makes no sense. James took David’s compound bow off to Bass Pro for a restringing (turns out David’s bow didn’t need restringing after all, just a new notch point) while we were being tech geeky, and when he returned they had a good long conversation about bows and arrows and suchlike. I think I had to pry them apart to leave the house for the bookstore.
It wouldn’t be the weekend without hitting up a bookstore in general, or Border’s in particular. So we collected some books, a couple of drinks, and sat for awhile. James got a new John Ringo book (named Vorpal Blade of all the cheesy titles), and I finally bought the cookbook – How To Cook Everything. I’ve been wanting it for ages, and it’s finally in paperback and I can afford it! I also perused the baby and toddler books while there, and made a little list of titles to add to the registry. Never too early for books!
As we were leaving the bookstore my brother called to ask James if he would like to be an extra in a short film. So after a quick stop by home, we drove down to Norman, got lost a couple of times, and finally found the shoot location. Where we proceeded to wait, and wait, and wait, and wait some more, before James sat at a table on the set for a while ten minutes. I don’t know if I could stand working on a set, if I weren’t doing some job wherein I was constantly moving around and busy, I would be so bored off my ass I would scream.
The funniest part was seeing my brother in a place where everyone else did almost exactly the same thing he does all the time. Talk about ideas they have, what they’ve done, or who they’ve met. It was like being around ten versions of my brother. Weird.
We hit up an IHOP on the way home because we were starving, having last ate at 1:30, and it now being 11pm or so. After food was home, and the downhill slide to sleep…
[...] weekend I wandered over to Jessica’s place to help her get her new blog set up. She wanted to run it under WordPress, and since I’ve done a couple WordPress installs, I was [...]
Awesome. Enjoy seeing the new blog. Slowly we are all getting away from lj..
btw the game is War of the Ring
Looks good! Got you added to the blogroll, and now gotta update my feed reader to keep up with your posts.
I know this was written two months ago, but it was still fun to see “a day in the life” of you. Fun fact about me: I own the Lord of the Rings movies! Okay, so that’s not so ah-ha! as lots of people do. But it was cool that I knew who the characters were in your game. I’m usually clueless about the games you guys play (dungeons and dragons? not sure what the usual fare is), but this time I could picture or visualize Mordor or Saruman or the like.
All for now.
Oh, and I started a blog (like last night), but it has like all of one post. And I’m trying to think what my blog name is…ah, shoot, gotta look that up. You can tell I’m REALLY into the blogging! ha!
p.s.
oh, and I looked up Botero online. It’s neat to read about what kind of art you like and stuff.
